During the November 7, 2012 enshrinement reception, dinner, and ceremony at Nellis AFB, Executive Director Thornton D. “TD” Barnes will be revisiting his participation in Project OXCART at Area 51 with the enshrinement of CIA A-12 pilot Frank Murray into the Nevada Aerospace Hall of Fame. Barnes was a member of the highly-classified Special Projects team of aerospace/aviation/military technology specialists for the declassified CIA U-2 Project AQUATONE, A-12 Project OXCART, Operation BLACKSHIELD, the MiG
exploitation programs, stealth, and other projects that remain classified. Hall of Fame Enshrinee Frank Murray was awarded the CIA Intelligence Star for Valor for his surveillance flights over North Vietnam and over North Korea during the USS Pueblo seizure. Barnes and others were shown in National Geographic Channel’s recent documentary, Area 51 Declassified. Today, National Geographic published newly released crash photos and a bit of history about the OXCART project.
