Declaration of Enshrinement

William R. Hausler

In October 1918, William Robert “Bob” Hausler flew one of the five aircraft that the US Army Air Service sent from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City and then to San Francisco, to map out possible airmail routes. In 1919, on a leased property located one mile south of Las Vegas, he laid out a field meeting Army Service, Aero Club of Southern California, and Aero Club of America standards. The new field conducted dedicatory exercises on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1920, with several planes giving exhibitions in stunt flying and carrying passengers. The November 25 air show was a success in spite of one biplane crashing immediately after takeoff. Also, Hausler worked with communities including Caliente, Nevada in planning airfields.

For his role in the development of airmail service and expanding general aviation throughout the southwest, Capt. William Robert “Bob” Hausler earned his place in the Nevada Aerospace Hall of Fame.
